AI based Smart Factory Solution ‘DSEY Korea’

South Korea is regarded as the world’s leading country in terms of automation of manufacturing industries. According to the IFR report released this year, the average density of robots in the global manufacturing industry were 113 unit per 10,000 employees. South Korea ranks second with 868 units per 10,000 units, and is the most advanced country in automation, more than double the gap with Japan, the third-largest with 364 units. The wave of automation is increasing industrial productivity by introducing automatic cooking utensils or kiosks around global franchises, not only manufact uring but also distribution and logistics industries that were believed to be irreplaceable. In order to transform the process of simple labour-based  manufacturing into a “Smart Factory.” It is essential for automation process solution companies to help.

DSEY Korea is an IT company that offers solutions in Smart Factory. It is company led by a female entrepreneur in Gyeonggi province that was established in 2002 and specialises in developing and supplying intelligent factory solutions based on AI (Artificial Intelligence) that have been doing business since the beginning of the domestic automation manufacturing industry.

- AI-based Smart Factory Solution

Although DSEY Korea is currently a company that stands out in comprehensive development and supply of AI-based intelligent plant solutions, it is originally UX (User Experience on its Internet portal sites. It was launched as a company that specialises in UI (User Interface) design.

Ms Eunyoung Kang, who entered the business in 2002 by recommendation of an acquaintance is the first generation in related fields to take charge of UX UI work, which was an unfamiliar concept at the time. However, she felt that the software that she used for work was different from the actual user.
Meanwhile Ms Kang’s experience in building business innovations such as corporate business processes (BPM: Business Process Management) of portal sites, integration of corporate applications (EAI: Enterprise Application Interface), supply chain management (SCM), and customer relationship management (CRM) provided a clue to future changes in the UX UI field.

BPM is a management tool that systems the diversified business processes of modern companies that the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, which is currently commonly used in companies that cannot solve systems.

- Importance of the automation industry in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution

A major business area of DSEY Korea is Signe-S, which is a smart factory solution based on AI technology. Signe-S, which is set to be released globally at the end of this year, can be evaluated as a solution suitable for the fourth industrial revolution beyond the existing automation process.
In the past, in the case of automated process manufacturing, when either singularity or statistical outliers were found, they were presented only mechanically, and subsequent alternatives were directly addressed by humans. As a result, efforts by a number of professionals to diagnose and resolve problems for continuous monitoring and identifying causes were inevitable choices, which resulted in poor production volume and quality of products.
However, ‘Signe-S’ developed by DSEY Korea has added artificial intelligence to the existing automation process so that it can execute real-time intelligent factories. The difference between existing automation processes and ‘Signe-S’ is that the entire process is modularised by monitoring field, collecting big data in all processes, including samples, predicting problems proactively through machine learning based AI, and suggesting alternatives to control them.
In the meantime DSEY Korea’s unique advantage is that non-experts can diagnose and model equipment processes without coding. It can be compared to a car that drives on its own with just one button and learns the condition of the road surface on its own and drives in the appropriate mode of operation.
Signe-S is currently set to enter the U.S. and Chinese market on December, and it is in the final stage of verifying product operation against local customers.

- Creation of jobs with creative ideas in the professional domain

The problem of employment requires a balance between the ‘amount of employment’ and ‘quality of employment.’ Often, even if the employment rate rises dramatically, it is evaluated that the quality of employment has decreased if individual figures are concentrated on the increase in the low-skilled service industry. At this time, the key figure evaluating the quality of employment is the number of workers in the manufacturing and professional fields, and this field is rapidly being replaced by robots.
Currently, this ministry of SMEs and Startups have sharply increased the budget related to venture start-ups, emphasising the importance of entrepreneurship. The reason is that the increase in venture companies based on the fourth industry results in job creation that guarantees ‘’quality of employment.”
The entrepreneur ships represented by Bill Gates or Steve Jobs have dramatically increased global productivity, and the number of employees in the IT industry created by this is 860,000 in Korea in 2019.
Ms Kang the CEO of DSEY and 30 executives and employees also agree that although robots take away human jobs, that in the long run, AI’s help will move people away from simple layout and to jobs in professional areas where they can show more creative capabilities. Furthermore, Ms Kang and DSEY Korea Inc are paying keen attention to further changes in big data, high-performance machine learning, and super automation in the future. It is also paying attention to changes in the development environment in the near future and is spurring software development using open source-based languages.

Interview with Kang Eun Young representative of DSEY Korea CO., Ltd.

- On reasons why Ms Kang started this AI business.

Originally, she majored in industrial design and computer engineering and had a normal 9 to 6 work life. Then in 2002, by acquaintance’s recommendations, she started the UX-UI business.

After doing business, she was interested in the lack of usability of software, and in the future, she vaguely thought that design and IT would be in her daily life. At the same time, she gained experience by winning orders for Internet portal companies, and started the current AI based Smart Factory solution business with confidence that she will change from an information society to knowledge based society.

- The special thing about DSEY Inc.

AI technology-based smart factory solution ‘Signe-S’ and messaging middleware product ‘Solace’ are solutions based on high-capacity and high-performance big data, and have the most supplied and most certified consultants as Korean distributors. Signe-S, which was self-research and developed, visualised exports within December this year after completing several tests on China and United States in recognition of its technology.

- Are there any difficulties in the business process?

It is difficult to do business activities as a representative of small and medium-sized enterprises in Korea’s corporate environment. Fortune 500 companies have their own software companies through subsidiaries, and I feel that policies are concentrated on Fortune 500 companies. I would like to explain that it is difficult to respond to the disclosure of self-developed solutions due to the vertical relationship between Fortune 500 companies and competition.
